Write an essay in which you explain the topic on which you will write your Researched Argument Essay. Keep in mind that there will not be enough room in this paper to give an exhaustive summary of the issue, nor will you have had time to completely research every aspect of your topic. You should, however, be able to do the following:
1. Denne the issue. Give some background, and explain the parameters.
2. Indicate at least two sides of the controversy. Try to be as unbiased as you can -your readers should not be able to determine which side you think is right.
3. Indicate why and for whom this issue is important. Who cares about your issue? Why would an average person care about the issue?
4. Think about the past and future of this issue. Where did it come from? How did it change as it became larger? What will be the consequences if the issue is resolved in one direction or another?
Remember that this is not an argument, nor is it simply an expanded proposal. Your job here is to outline and explain the issue at hand to an audience of your peers, so tailor the level of detail to what they know about your issue.
You will need to use at least four sources for this paper. Three of them must be sources which were originally on paper: magazine, newspaper, book, etc. They can be from the online databases, but NOT just the internet. The others may be web sites. You will need to document all of your sources using MLA style. You must include a Works Cited page.
