Case Study – Ms. Janet
You are outside your home, when your next-door neighbour, Ms. Janet (aged 74), is out for a walk and stops by to chat with you. She complains about feeling lonely and cooped up in the house. She inquires about your work with “the old people”. You have noticed Ms. Janet goes for walks on occasion and seems to be cognitively well when you speak with her from time to time. Her garden out front appears to be a bit overgrown.
Using your knowledge of exercise and aging (from your required readings, lectures and other activities within this course), what possible barriers or limitations might be preventing Ms. Janet from being more active, both physically and in her community?
